Thursday 15th June saw the second Cupcake Day in order to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society - people up and down the country in their thousands baking, faking, and eating to turn up the heat on dementia. Last year £330,000 was raised which is an amazing amount of money (that’s more than enough to fund 11 PhD researchers for a year, giving them the opportunity to undertake vital, potentially lifesaving work). We did our bit here in our office (faking) and raising £45 but what was really interesting was how it united people - we stood around the cakes chatting about our experiences of dementia - something that I cannot have imagined doing 20 or 30 years ago when so little was know about the disease. But now Dementia is set to be the number one cause of death in England and Wales, with no cure, it's awareness, discussion AND fundraising that will help. We will carry on talking, carry on fundraising and carry on supporting this amazing cause.
